Clinic & Food Cooperative
It is widely accepted that a healthy mind and a healthy body go together, or at least that the absence of one has a detrimental effect on the other. It then stands to reason that the Norwich Academy should play an active role in evolving and facilitating education and practical implementation of initiatives in the areas of health and medicine.
The Norwich Academy Natural Health Clinic & Health Advice Centre is an initiative to put this in place at the earliest opportunity. The aims in establishing the Clinic are: 1. To offer treatment and advice for both children and adults suffering from asthma, stress, eczema, obesity and other ailments; 2. To research and evolve alternative medicine and medical practices from a holistic; approach looking particularly at traditional Chinese and Tibb approaches; 3. To be a place of training in the arts of healing and alternative medical practices; 4. To have a positive impact in encouraging and facilitating healthy eating & dietary habits in the local community. 5. To promote sport and other forms of physical exercise and activities that benefit adults and children The activities of the Clinic are aimed at the whole community but will specifically target: • Those on low income
• Children
• Single parents
• People over 50
• Health practitioners
• Community & religious groups
• Health & other shops
• Schools & colleges
• Ethnic minority groups In order to move the project forward it has been decided to begin work immediately by: 1. Establishing a Food Cooperative, which was achieved with financial support from an Acorn grant and continues currently on a limited basis; 2. Organising a series of local talks around the issue of health; 3. Publishing and disseminating material that will promote healthy eating and healthcare; 4. Organising an international women’s conference with health being one of the main topics on the agenda;
5. Encouraging and assisting selected individuals to train as health practitioners. The Academy is currently in the middle of a two year pilot health studies educational programme for young people and 'would be' practitioners. The first year consists of basic biology (plant and animal) and then a focus on human biology. The second year involves looking at diagnosis and treatments. Top
